Online Payments

Turn your website into an online store where your clients can browse your products, and then make their purchases quickly and securely, from the comfort of their home, office or anywhere.

Online payments or processing is defined as any purchase or payment for goods or a service electronically, via either the seller’s website, or Virtual Terminal. This would require them to be connected to a Gateway, which speaks directly to the banking systems, telling them which account to deduct monies from, and where it then needs to be redirected, and settled to. This is done by the Merchant, using a Merchant Account, which gets assigned a Merchant Number. This Merchant Number is used in our systems as both an identifier of the Merchant to whom it belongs, and a director of the funds being paid to the Merchant, telling our system, and the bank, where the funds then need to settle to.

This Solution can be broken down into categories according to the different methods used to process.

Simple & Secure Hosted Online Payments Method:

Using the same analogy as before, where we think of your website as your store and our Payment Gateway as your POS card machine. This option would see PayPort SA supply you with a ready to use working card machine, where all you would need to do is plug it in, and start accepting credit card payments online.

This method uses a redirect to our Hosted Online Payments Page to accept credit card payments safely and securely, and because it is hosted by us in our secure environment, this method affords you the benefit of the leaving all the security and payment processing to us. Our Hosted Payment Method uses SSL encryption and 3D Secure to provide you with a completely integrated and secure solution for accepting your credit card payments online. This takes the burden off you as the merchant, should there be any chargebacks, as 3D Secure, provides you with the added peace of mind, that the liability will be shifted away from you, removing the risk factor often associated with online processing. Also, because we are Fully PCI DSS compliant, you can rest assured that your credit card data is stored securely, and will never fall into the wrong hands.

Direct Integration Method:

This method is mainly for the power user with a IT or coding background, and gives you complete control of every aspect of your online transacting.

This method is generally used by the Power Users, like Big Business Clients, or those tech-savvy, and in the development business sector, who want the cardholder to remain in their website’s environment (and not redirect to PayPort SA Hosted Service); in order for them to maintain full control of their payment process flow, for additional functionality that only this service can provide. (e.g. Authorise, Capture, Refunds, and Authorise Reversal)
While this method, gives you greater control of your client data and payment process, it will require you to have stringent security procedures in play on your end, as you are not protected by the security protocols and measures, used in the PayPort SA hosted environment. Not to worry though, you will be closely guided during the integration process, to make sure your Payments Environment, maintains the high level of standards, set by our e-Commerce Security Specialists; who will provide you with the step-by-step Integration Guide, and be in contact for every step of the way.

To make use of this Service and Integration method, you will need to integrate into PayPort SA Payment Gateway Server via secure webservice calls made to it, and then receiving the transaction result response from us again, in REALTIME. You will also be required to integrate directly into the 3D Secure Call Service, in order to use it, and secure your liability shift, that this service provides, remains in place.

Recurring Billing

Batch RCCB:

This allows you to process multiple card transactions from a batch, into the system, and then deducts your owed amount from that card, on a monthly basis.

This is a service which enables merchants to upload a monthly batch file with variable amounts to be debited off a client’s credit card. Batches can be automated and loaded in various methods, eg. CSV, XML etc. Note though, that in order to process Batch RCCB, you will be required to store sensitive card data such as PAN and Expiry date for subsequent transactions to be submitted. There are 2 solutions to resolve this security issue, one of them would be to properly and professionally hire a security company or specialist to secure your Merchants card data on your systems, or you can use PayPort’s Tokenisation Service to replace cardholder data with a Securely Encrypted token which will then be used for subsequent submissions.

Hosted RCCB:

This service would be what you got, if our debit order service had a child with our Hosted Online Payments Service. The result would be a Debit Order service, with the ability to debit credit cards.

Is a Payment Method which is typically used for subscription based services to enable you to receive regularly scheduled fixed payments automatically via a direct debit directly off of a customers’ credit card. This service uses a redirect to our Hosted Online Payments Page to accept the initial credit card payment safely and securely, and because it is hosted by us in our secure environment, this method allows you, to leave all the security and payment processing to us.

The way this is done, is that the customer will initiate the first payment via your website, where they will specify the Rand amount to be debited, the frequency of the debit and the period of time over which the credit card is to be regularly debited and all the subsequent payments are then processed by the PayPort SA Payments System based on the parameters passed through the initial transaction made by the cardholder.

NOTE: The Hosted RCCB Service does not allow for variable monthly submissions values to be processed. For this, you would need to use either Batch RCCB, or Integrated RCCB.

Integrated RCCB:

This is Hosted RCCB, for the power user who wants full control over their monthly submissions, and has the added advantage of you being able to change the amount of the debits taken monthly from the clients cards. An example of where this would be used, is by a ISP (Internet Service Provider) where they store your card detail, and submit a monthly debit on it, according to your usage amount that month.

Is a Payment Method which is typically used for subscription based services to enable you to receive regularly scheduled fixed payments automatically via a direct debit directly off of a customers’ credit card. This service is perfect and most often required by Large Businesses and Call Centers, using their own Accounting Packages for Financial Business Automation, who need a direct integration to the PayPort SA System for manual MOTO client payments. You can use this Integrated MOTO Payments solution, to link these 2 environments and make life easier, by taking the hassle out of manually reconciling, across 2 separate applications or platforms. This enables the payment process to be fully automated directly to your financial system, which will in turn significantly reduce the costs associated with manual reconciliation and the time and resources doing it will incur.

The way this is done, is that the customer will initiate the first payment via your website, where they will specify the Rand amount to be debited, the frequency of the debit and the period of time over which the credit card is to be regularly debited and all the subsequent payments are then processed by the PayPort SA Payments Engine based on the parameters passed through the initial transaction made by the cardholder, but can be managed from your in-house system, by means of web calls into ours. Responses and transaction statuses are sent back to your system by means of scheduled calls as determined by your integration settings.

Once again, this payment solution will reside on your server, which needs to be securely setup and maintained. You will need to integrate into the PayPort SA Environment by use of the API we will provide you to access our payment functionality on our servers.

Tokenisation

Makes the world of online processing safer, by securely encrypting all card data, which can only be encrypted by our secure servers, meaning data that is intercepted at any weak access point in between, is useless to the would be thief.

Tokenisation is a Security Encryption Service built with the purpose of securing your (The Merchant’s) environment, from the burden of ensuring that you have and meet PCS Level requirements, by removing the card data from it. Without Tokenization, PCI-DSS compliance would be endlessly more stringent, which in turn will cost you a lot more to comply. As an Online Merchant it should be your first priority to keep your client’s card data from would be hackers, looking to expose any vulnerability in your system, and that is why PayPort SA have made it ours, by providing the Tokenization Services, which takes away the data most coveted by hackers, rendering your server virtually “undesirable” to them.

The way this is done, is that the card data that is entered on our secure page for the first time is encrypted in the form of a token, to the highest standards available as set by PCS. This token is now stored on your end and is completely risk free as it bears no relation to the initial card data without the encryption key which is held on our end, and you therefore never have both on your end at the same time. The client card data as well as being encrypted, is also always kept on separate servers, meaning they are never in the same place at the same time, and this token, which is associated to a client card, is what is parsed to and from the cardholder and yourself when they make all subsequent purchases.

3D Secure

What is 3D Secure?

Is like an ATM pin code, for your Visa or Mastercard when processing online, can you imagine what life would be like without PIN security on your card accounts? We most certainly don’t want you to have to find out.

3D Secure stands for Three Domain Secure – the payment industry’s Internet authentication standard which has been developed by the major card companies. Visa has called their version of the scheme Verified by Visa and MasterCard have called their equivalent initiative MasterCard SecureCode. These are both collectively referred to as 3D Secure.

How does 3D Secure work? – 3D Secure authentication requires the cardholder to register their card to take advantage of this service. This is a one-time process which takes place on the card issuer’s website and involves the cardholder answering several security questions to which only the card issuer and cardholder will know the answer. The cardholder selects a password and agrees on a secret phrase, which will be used by the card issuer during each online transaction.

If a customer is not yet registered with the scheme, the fact that the transaction is checked by MyGate for 3D Secure compliance should give similar protection from the customer denying that they processed the transaction (providing the customer’s bank is participating in the 3D Secure scheme).

3D Secure is currently a service standard in Europe and the rest of the world, and is slowly becoming mandatory in South Africa, although it must be said that in South Africa, there is a definite neglect in educating the cardholders on this service, meaning not enough of them know of it, never mind, how and why it is used; yet, it is still being made mandatory. It would make sense that this is done at the point where the cardholder receives the card, but alas, this is far too often not the case. This does not bode well for Online Merchants here, wanting to make use of this additional sales stream, as the lack of knowledge of this product, has shown to directly contribute to the significant drop in successfully completed transactions (sales). This is why we here at PayPort SA, strive to better inform and educate, YOU, Our Merchant, so that you know all the pitfalls associated with the product and service we provide you. Armed with this better understanding of how, why and where you could drop off in clients and/or sales, means you can then understand and address these issues, that much more effectively.

Moto

PayPort Virtual (MOTO) Terminal – (NO INTEGRATION REQUIRED):

This service turns your PC, Laptop or Tablet, into a POS terminal, allowing you to take credit Card payments from face to face customers, or telephonically. Mainly used for clients that are not present.

This service, like our Simple & Secure Hosted Online Payments, makes use of a Payment Page, securely hosted on our servers, which you can use via your PC or laptop, to load client payments directly, over the phone, or in person, without the need for website to facilitate the sale.

This will turn any tablet or PC into a Virtual Point of Sale Terminal, which is perfect for low volume Merchants who need to take immediate payments from clients, but do not have a website to facilitate this process, and slowly but surely, it will replace the need for a physical PoS terminal, when all you need is a tablet or PC, with an internet connection, to access this useful payment method.

Integrated MOTO Payment Solution:

This service is used by Call Centres or Large Corporations, as it can initiate manual payments from your inhouse system without the cardholder physically needing to be there.

Once again, this payment solution will reside on your server, which needs to be securely setup and maintained. You will need to integrate into the PayPort SA Environment by use of the API we will provide you to access our payment functionality on our servers.

You will not be required to integrate into 3D Secure, as this functionality is not available via this service.

Some Useful Information on MOTO and 3DS, and why they do not go together: Because of how this service was traditionally intended to be used, and the distance between the Merchant and Cardholder at that time, being a phone call’s distance away from each other, the client cannot be prompted on their end to enter their 3DS security info or PIN, as would be required and possible in a virtual environment. This essentially negates the ability to use the 3D Secure Service in the MOTO environment, and although technology has brought us closer together in recent times, the rules governing the use of this service, remain the same.
